May a Father’s love look on all the children. May the special need of each one be supplied; the special sorrow of each one be assuaged [eased]. May we be growing Christians, may we be working Christians, may we be perfected Christians, may we come to the fullness of the stature of men in Christ Jesus. Lord Jesus, Thou art a great pillar; in Thee doth all fullness dwell. ‘Thou didst [did] begin Thy life with filling the water-pots to the full; Thou didst [did] fill Simon Peter’s boat [with fish] until it began to sink; Thou didst [did] fill the house where Thy people were met together with the presence of the Holy Ghost; Thou dost [do] fill heaven; Thou wilt [will] surely fill all things; fill us, oh! fill us to-day with all the fullness of God, and make Thy people thus [therefore] joyful and strong, and gracious and heavenly! I do not hesitate to say, that we all unwittingly [without knowing it] allow ourselves [to be] in practices, which clearer light would show to be sins. Even the best of men, have done this in the past. For instance, John Newton, in his trading for slaves in his early days, never seemed to have felt that there was any wrong in it; and Whitefield in accepting slaves for his orphanage in Georgia, never raised or dreamed of raising the question as to whether slavery was in itself sinful. Perhaps advancing light will show that many of the habits and customs of our present civilization are essentially bad, and our grandsons will wonder how we could have acted as we did. It may need centuries before the national conscience, or even the common Christian conscience, will be enlightened up to the true standard of right; and the individual man may need many a chastisement and rebuke from the Lord ere [before] he has fully discerned holiness between good and evil. ________________________________________ FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 6 GUARDIAN OF THE FATHERLESS C.H. Spurgeon -In thee the fatherless findeth [finds] mercy —Hosea 14:3 En ti el huerfano alcanzará misericordia —Oseas 14:3 This is an excellent reason for casting away all other confidences and relying upon the Lord alone. When a child is left without its natural protector, our God steps in and becomes his guardian: so, also when a man has lost every object of dependence, [everything he depends upon] he may cast himself upon the living God and find in Him all that he needs. Orphans are cast [thrown] upon the fatherhood of God, and He provides for them. The writer of these pages knows what it is to hang on the bare arm of God, and he [the writer] bears his willing witness that no trust is so well warranted by facts, or so sure to be rewarded by results, as trust in the invisible but ever living God. Some children who have fathers are not much the better off because of them, but the fatherless with God are rich. Better have God and no other friend than all the patrons on the earth and no God. To be bereaved of the creature [earthly father] is painful, but so long as the Lord remains the fountain of mercy to us, we are not truly orphaned. Prayer: [Dear Father] Let fatherless children plead the gracious word and let all who have been bereaved [suffered loss] of visible support do the same. Lord, let me find mercy in thee! The more needy and helpless I am, the more confidently do I appeal to thy loving heart. Thank you, Lord, that -In thee, the fatherless [orphan] findeth [finds] mercy —Thank You that in You there is always mercy to be found in Jesus’ name, Amen. ________________________________________ MORNING March 6 “Ye must be born again."—John 3:7 No te maravilles de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer otra vez. —Juan 3:7 REGENERATION is a subject that lies at the very basis of salvation, and we should be very diligent to take heed that we really are "born again," for there are many who fancy [imagine] they are, who are not. Be assured that the name of a Christian is not the nature of a Christian; and that being born in a Christian land and being recognized as professing the Christian religion is to no avail whatever, unless there be something more added to it —the being "born again" by the power of the Holy Spirit. To be "born again," is a matter so mysterious that human words cannot describe it. "The wind bloweth [blows] where it listeth [wants to], and thou hearest [hear] the sound thereof, but canst [can] not tell whence [from where] it cometh [comes] and whither [where] it goeth [goes]: so is every one that is born of the [Holy] Spirit." Nevertheless, it is a change which is known and felt: known by works of holiness, and felt by a gracious experience. This great work is supernatural. It is not an operation which a man performs for himself: [No!] …a new principle is infused, which works in the heart, renews the soul, and affects the entire man [person] . It is not a change of my name, but a renewal of my nature, so that I am not the one I used to be, but a new person in Christ Jesus. To wash and dress a corpse [dead body] is a far different thing from making it alive: man can do the one, God alone can do the other. If you have then, been "born again," your acknowledgment will be, “O Lord Jesus, the everlasting Father, You are my spiritual Parent; unless Your Spirit had breathed into me the breath of a new, holy, and spiritual life, I had been [I would be] to this day 'dead in trespasses and sins.' My heavenly life is wholly derived [comes completely] from You, [and] to You I ascribe [attribute and dedicate] it. 'My life is hid with Christ in God.' It is no longer I who live, …but [Jesus] Christ who lives in me." May the Lord enable us to be well assured on this vital point, for to be unregenerate is to be unsaved, unpardoned, without God, and without hope. ________________________________________ EVENING March 6 "Before destruction, the heart of man is *haughty." —Proverbs 18:12 Antes del quebrantamiento, se eleva el corazón del hombre —Proverbios 18:12 IT is an old and common saying, that "coming events cast their shadows before them." The wise man teaches us that a *haughty heart is the prophetic prelude of evil. Pride [in a person] is as safely the sign of destruction as the change of mercury in the weatherglass [barometer] is the sign of rain; and far more infallibly so than that. When men have ridden the high horse, destruction has always overtaken them. Let [King] David's aching heart show that there is an eclipse of a man's glory when he doats [brags] upon his own greatness. (2 Samuel 24:10). See Nebuchadnezzar, the mighty builder of Babylon, creeping on the earth [crawling on the ground], devouring [eating] grass like oxen, until his [finger] nails had grown like bird's claws, and his hair like eagle's feathers (Dan. 4:33). Pride made the boaster [the bragging one] a beast, as once before it made an angel [into] a devil. God hates high looks, [a conceited nose in the air] and never fails to bring them down. All the arrows of God are aimed at proud hearts. 0 Christian, is your heart *haughty this evening? For pride can get into the Christian's heart as well as into the sinner's; it can delude him into dreaming that he is "rich and increased in goods, and has need of nothing." Are you glorying in your graces or your talents? Are you proud of yourself, that you have had holy frames [moments] and sweet experiences? Mark you, [take note] reader, there is a destruction coming to you also. Your [bragging about and] flaunting poppies [flowers] of self-conceit will be pulled up by the roots, your mushroom graces will wither in the burning heat, and your self-sufficiency will become as straw for the dunghill [absorbing the filth where excrement is dumped]. If we forget to live at the foot of the cross in deepest lowliness of spirit, God will not forget to make us smart [punish us] under His rod [instrument of discipline]. A destruction will come to you, 0 unduly exalted believer, the destruction of your joys and of your comforts, though there can be no destruction of your soul. Wherefore, "He that glorieth, [glories] let him glory in the Lord." ____________________________________ A SINNER’S PRAYER: … FOR WHOSOEVER: [One and all] Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21 Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved … pray like this, won’t you? “Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless. I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been self-centered from birth. Please forgive me. I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all. I look to You, alone Lord Jesus to save me. I call on You, Lord Jesus, right now to save me. You died on the cross for me, because of my sin and You say, “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21. Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me, I trust You, to be my Lord and Savior from now on. Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins. I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You. You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross. Even the sins of the whole world. Thank you, Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too. Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy: * Letters from close relatives are quoted in the Inside Story above The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places, thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so. Link above, for The complete Inside Story of Westcott and Hort. ____________________________________ CONCLUSION In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is evil in itself, but because the attitude of being contented to use a blemished version rather than an existing unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has taken the trouble to preserve for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to change over to a version that is based on a defective text. BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL! by The Gaither Congregation (Praise the Lord, together with us, won’t you?)

LORD, we are longing to draw near; may Thy Spirit draw us near. We come by the way of Christ our Mediator. We could not approach Thee, O our God, if it were not for Him, but in Him we come boldly to the throne of heavenly grace.

Nor can we come without thanksgiving — thanksgiving from the heart, such as the tongue can never express. Thou hast [have] chosen us from before the foundation of the world, and this well-head [fountain] of mercy sends forth streams of loving-kindness never ceasing. Because we were chosen we have been redeemed with precious blood.

Bless the Lord!

And we have been called by the Holy Spirit out of the world, and we have been led to obey that wondrous call which hath quickened [given new birth to] us and renewed us, and made us the people of God, given us adoption into the Divine Family.

The wise man saith, [says] “As a bird that wandereth [wanders] from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.” It is not the box that makes the jewel, nor the place that makes the man. “Oh, but anywhere rather than this !” Yes, and when you get into the place you now covet [desire] , you will pine to be back again.

A barren tree is none the better for being transplanted. A blind man may stand at many windows before he will improve his view. If it is difficult to produce good works where you are, you will find it still difficult where you wish to be. He who said that he leaped so many yards at *Rhodes, [Ancient Olympic Games] was asked to do the same feat at home; surely the place could not take away his strength, nor give it to him. Oh, sirs, the real difficulty lies not without you, but within you.

"Rhodes is here, [so] now perform your jump",

-Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken [captive].

When God is abroad [active] in judgments, He would not have His people alarmed. He has not come forth to harm, but to defend the righteous. He would have them manifest [show] courage. We who enjoy the presence of God ought to display presence of mind. Since the Lord Himself may suddenly come, we ought not to be surprised at anything sudden.

Serenity under the rush and roar of unexpected evils is a precious gift of divine love. The Lord would have His chosen display discrimination, [discernment] so that they may see that the desolation of the wicked is not a real calamity to the universe. Sin alone is evil; the punishment which follows thereupon is as a preserving salt to keep society from putrefying.

We should be far more shocked at the sin which deserves hell, than at the hell which comes out of sin. So, too, should the Lord’s people exhibit great quietness of spirit.

Satan and his serpent seed are full of all subtlety; but those who walk with God shall not be taken in their deceitful snares.

Go on, believer in Jesus, and let the Lord be thy confidence.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, that I don’t have to be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes, For You, Lord shall be my confidence, and shall keep my foot from being captured. Your Peace which is beyond comprehension shall keep my heart and mind through the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, I do trust you to save and keep me. I believe you died in my place on the cross for my sins and that You were raised from the dead, victorious over death, sin, and the grave to give eternal life and Your righteousness to all that would believe in You. “With His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

PILATE delivered our Lord to the lictors [executioners] to be scourged . The Roman scourge [whip] was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were intertwisted every here and there among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of bone inflicted fearful laceration [cuts], and tore off the flesh from the bone. The Savior was, no doubt, bound to the column, and thus beaten. He had been beaten before; but this of the Roman lictors was probably the most severe of His flagellations [scourgings]. 

My soul, stand here and weep over his poor stricken body.

Believer in Jesus, can you gaze upon Him without tears, as He stands before you the mirror of agonizing love? He is at once fair as the lily for innocence, and red as the rose with the crimson of His own blood. As we feel the sure and blessed healing which His stripes have wrought in us, does not our heart melt at once with love and grief? If ever we have loved our Lord Jesus, surely we must feel that affection glowing now within our bosoms.

See how the patient Jesus stands,

Insulted in His lowest case!

Sinners have bound the Almighty’s hands,

And spit in their Creator’s face.

With thorns His temples gored and gashed

Send streams of blood from every part;

His back’s with knotted scourges lashed.

But sharper scourges tear His heart.”

We would fain [earnestly want to] go to our chambers [room] and weep; but, since our business calls us away, we will first pray our Beloved to print the image of His bleeding self upon the tablets of our hearts all the day, and at nightfall we will return to commune with Him, and sorrow that our sins should have cost Him so dear. ________________________________________

IF the love of a woman to her slain sons could make her prolong her mournful vigil for so long a period, shall we weary of considering the sufferings of our blessed Lord? She drove away the birds of prey, and shall not we chase from our meditations those worldly and sinful thoughts which defile both our minds and the sacred themes upon which we are occupied?

Away, ye birds of evil wing! Leave ye the sacrifice alone! She bore the heats of summer, the night dews and the rains, unsheltered and alone. Sleep was chased from her weeping eyes: her heart was too full for slumber. Behold how she loved her children! 

Shall Rizpah thus endure, and shall we start [freeze-up] at the first little inconvenience or trial?

Are we such cowards that we cannot bear to suffer with our Lord? She chased away even the wild beasts, with courage unusual in her sex, and will not we be ready to encounter every foe for Jesus’ sake? These her children were slain by other hands than hers, and yet she wept and watched: what ought we to do who have by our sins crucified our Lord?

Our obligations are boundless, our love should be fervent [intensely passionate] and our repentance thorough [all-inclusive].

To watch [stand] with Jesus should be our business, to protect His honor, our occupation, to abide by His cross our solace.

Those ghastly corpses might well have affrighted [frightened] Rizpah, especially by night; but in our Lord, at whose cross-foot [foot of the cross] we are sitting, there is nothing revolting, but everything attractive.

Never was living beauty so enchanting as a dying Savior.

Jesus, we will watch with Thee yet a while, and do [should] Thou graciously unveil Thyself to us; then shall we not sit beneath [be dressed in] sackcloth, but

[we shall sit] in a royal pavilion .

The Pilgrim Progress is the world’s most widely published and most famous  Allegory .  It was commonly found among he scant possessions in the cabins of the early American Pioneers. It was loved and read, second only to the Holy Bible, God’s Word, of guidance, encouragement and comfort. It’s also considered, by some, to be the world’s first English novel and is the most published book of all time. other than the Bible. There were 1,300 editions printed before 1938, 250 years after the author's death. It remains one of the world’s most famous books.  In allegorical genre, it is unequalled.

 

Pilgrim’s Progress is referenced in many Spurgeon Sermons.

Note: Spurgeon was taught to read at a very early age and read The Pilgrim’s Progress for the first time when he was six years old. He would return to re-read it over 100 times.  He made many reference to it in his sermons as Pastor of  The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

 "Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture in The Pilgrim’s Progress. of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams [ancient weapons of war] had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melodies], for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle] he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

John Bunyan did not write or set forth any world view of any kind. His masterful allegory, demonstrably displays that God's Word does not support a world view at all but sets forth God’s view on every thing revealed and forever settled in heaven, The Holy Bible.

Bunyan merely, yet very ardently trusted in God’s Word; the God-breathed [divinely inspired], Self-authenticating, Providentially-protected immutable, inerrant, infallible, and inextinguishable written Word from GOD Himself. God, the omnipotent, omnipresent, righteous and Holy One, has breathed out His Word and has made His Word flesh in the birth of Jesus Christ. God’s Word is now, has always been and will forever be in perfect accord with Himself and the Spirit of Truth.

IF the love of a woman to her slain sons could make her prolong her mournful vigil for so long a period, shall we weary of considering the sufferings of our blessed Lord? She drove away the birds of prey, and shall not we chase from our meditations those worldly and sinful thoughts which defile both our minds and the sacred themes upon which we are occupied?

Away, ye birds of evil wing! Leave ye the sacrifice alone! She bore the heats of summer, the night dews and the rains, unsheltered and alone. Sleep was chased from her weeping eyes: her heart was too full for slumber. Behold how she loved her children! 

Shall Rizpah thus endure, and shall we start [freeze-up] at the first little inconvenience or trial?

Are we such cowards that we cannot bear to suffer with our Lord? She chased away even the wild beasts, with courage unusual in her sex, and will not we be ready to encounter every foe for Jesus’ sake? These her children were slain by other hands than hers, and yet she wept and watched: what ought we to do who have by our sins crucified our Lord?

Our obligations are boundless, our love should be fervent [intensely passionate] and our repentance thorough [all-inclusive].

To watch [stand] with Jesus should be our business, to protect His honor, our occupation, to abide by His cross our solace.

Those ghastly corpses might well have affrighted [frightened] Rizpah, especially by night; but in our Lord, at whose cross-foot [foot of the cross] we are sitting, there is nothing revolting, but everything attractive.

Never was living beauty so enchanting as a dying Savior.

Jesus, we will watch with Thee yet a while, and do [should] Thou graciously unveil Thyself to us; then shall we not sit beneath [be dressed in] sackcloth, but

[we shall sit] in a royal pavilion .

John 3:16 God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten [divinely fathered] Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but may be having eternal life.

vis. Textus Receptus [The Received Greek Text] (From the overwhelming majority of extant New Testament Greek manuscripts)

The Incomplete and unsealed codices of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not majority texts, [Original Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus]. Sinaiticus and Vaticanus present variant, ambiguous and erroneous readings rather than that of the well-established and settled texts. They disagree often with one another as well as with the settled majority texts. Thus, an attempt to create a pretext that will continue to justify a never-ending demand for additional editions and interpretations. These unsettled differences and bias in certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have led to the production of multiple “modern” editions with ambiguities, many variant readings and confusion from the explosion of unending, new editions.

Profit-driven publishers have embraced such an economic windfall to sell a continual flow of “new and better” English edition of The Bible. They give too little attention to the fidelity and accuracy already settled [in heaven] in majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the  Greek Textus Receptus.

God, Himself, providentially protects and preserves His Word. His Word is the God-breathed, self-authenticating, immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word, settled in heaven. He is not the author of confusion.

His entire ministry was established, empowered and inspired solely by God’s Holy Word imparted to him by the Holy Spirit. His written works continue to bless, guide, challenge and benefit today’s readers through the publication of his authentic Gospel sermons and other inspired writing His ministry continues to thrive and flourish today through the Metropolitan Tabernacle a church begun in 1650 The present building was constructed in 1861 and was rebuilt after the destruction caused during the second world war. This church has been steadfast in it’s adherence to Reformed Baptist theology that Spurgeon said was just a nickname for Biblical Christianity. They have resisted and continue to reject worldly winds of false doctrine, including pragmatism and self-centered “Christian hedonism”. Biblical Christianity will always show itself as a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, never just a philosophy or religion.

A SINNER’S PRAYER: … FOR WHOSOEVER:

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am lost. I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity in Hell. My nature and behavior has been sinful from birth. Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m sorry for each and every sin I have ever done and look to You to forgive them all.

I look to You, alone Lord Jesus to save me.
