A SINNER'S PRAYER

PRAYER 13, Part 6 of 11
THE WINGS OF PRAYER.
May experience teach us more and more how to avoid occasions of sin. May we grow more watchful; may we have a greater supremacy over our own spirit; may we be able to control ourselves under all circumstances, and so act that if the Master were to come at any moment we should not be ashamed to give our account into His hands.
Lord, we are not what we want to be. This is our sorrow. Oh! that Thou wouldest [would] by Thy Spirit, help us in the walks of life to adorn [adore] the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
[In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen.

ANECDOTE 234: Expressing Gratitude.
We read in the [News] paper some time ago that the King of Italy, to his great honor, appeared in a court of law on behalf of a man brought under charge of causing death. The king had seen the accident, and he came forward as a common witness in the court to say that the horse had mastered the driver, and the man was not to be blamed. I do not know the name of the man, but I feel pretty sure that Jacobi or Antonio, [or] whoever he may be, if ever King Humbert wants somebody to speak up for him, he will find a friend in him: he will say,
“My King came into court and spoke for me, and I will as long as ever I live speak up for him.”
Now, the Lord Jesus Christ is an advocate for you, therefore be an advocate for him. Can you ever be silent for Christ now that the Lord Christ has redeemed you from the curse of the law and the penalty of sin? I tell you, if you can be quiet and do nothing for Christ, I fear you have never tasted of his love and grace.
Click and Sing, won’t you? “O How I Love Jesus”.

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 25 REFRESHING SLEEP C.H. Spurgeon 1034—1892
-When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet-
Proverbs 3:24
-Cuando te acostares, no tendras temor; Antes te acostaras, y tu sueno sera suave- Proverbios 3:24
Is the reader likely to be confined for a while to the bed by sickness? let him go upstairs [to bed] without distress with this promise upon his heart -When thou liest [lay] down, thou shalt [will] not be afraid.-
When we go to bed at night, let this word smooth our pillow.
We cannot guard ourselves in sleep, but the Lord will keep us through the night. Those who lie down under the protection of the Lord are as secure as kings and queens in their palaces, and a great deal more so.
If with our lying down there is a laying down of all cares and ambitions, we shall get refreshment out of our beds such as the anxious and covetous never find in theirs.
Ill [bad] dreams shall be banished [driven away] , or even if they come, we shall wipe out the impression of them, knowing that they are only dreams. If we sleep thus [like this] we shall do well. How sweetly Peter slept when even the angel’s light did not wake him, and he needed a hard jog [poke] in the side to wake him up.
And yet he was sentenced to die on the morrow [next day]. Thus have martyrs slept before their burning.
-So he giveth [gives] his beloved sleep.-
To have sweet sleep we must have sweet lives, sweet tempers, sweet meditations, and sweet love.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that I shall not be afraid: yea, [Yes indeed,] I shall lie down, and my sleep shall be sweet.
You will *establish me, and keep me from evil. Thank You
in Jesus name, Amen

MORNING March 25
"Betrayest [betray] thou the Son of man with a kiss?" —Luke 22:48
—¿Con beso entregas al Hijo del hombre? —Lucas 22:48
THE kisses of an enemy are deceitful." Let me be on my guard when the world puts on a loving face, for it will, if possible, betray me as it did my Master, with a kiss. Whenever a man is about to stab [attack] religion [the faithful believer[s], he usually professes very great reverence for it.
Let me beware of the sleek-faced hypocrisy which is armor bearer to heresy and infidelity. Knowing the deceit of unrighteousness, let me be wise as a serpent to detect and avoid the designs of the enemy. The young man, devoid of understanding, was led astray by the kiss of the strange woman: may my soul be so graciously instructed all this day that
"the fair speech" of the world may have no effect upon me. Holy Spirit, do not let me, a poor frail son of man, be betrayed with a kiss!
But what if I should be guilty of the same accursed sin as Judas, that son of perdition? I have been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus; I am a member of His visible Church; I sit at the communion table: all these are so many kisses of my lips.
Am I sincere in them? If not, I am a vile traitor. Do I live in the world as carelessly as others do, and yet make a profession of being a fol¬lower of Jesus?
Then I must expose religion [true faith] to ridicule, and lead men to speak evil of the holy name by which I am called.
Surely if I act inconsistently I am a Judas, and it would be better for me if I had never been born. Dare I hope that I am clear in this matter? Then, O Lord, keep me so. O Lord, make me sincere and true. Preserve me from every false way. Never let me betray my Savior.
I do love You, Jesus, and though I often grieve You, yet I desire to abide faithfully even to death. O God, forbid that I should profess to be a high-soaring Christian and then fall at last into the lake of fire, because I betrayed my Master with a kiss.

EVENING March 25
"The Son of man. " —John 3:13
—Hijo del hombre—Juan 3:13
HOW constantly our Master used the title, the "Son of man!" If He had chosen, He might always have spoken of Himself as the Son of God, the Everlasting Father, the Wonderful, the Counselor, the Prince of Peace; but behold the lowliness of Jesus! He prefers to call Himself the Son of man.
Let us learn a lesson of humility from our Savior; let us never court great titles nor proud degrees. There is here, however, a far sweeter thought. Jesus loved manhood so much, that He delighted to honor it. Since it is a high honor, indeed, the greatest dignity of manhood, that Jesus is the Son of man, He displays this name that He may, as it were, hang royal stars on the breast of manhood and show forth the love of God to Abraham's seed [descendants].
Son of man—whenever He said those words, He shed a halo round the head of Adam's children.
Yet there is perhaps a still more precious thought. Jesus Christ called Him¬self the Son of man to express His oneness and sympathy with His people. He thus reminds us that we may approach Him without fear. We may take Him all our griefs and troubles, for He knows them by [personal] experience; in that He Himself has suffered as the "Son of man," He is able to succor [aid] and comfort us.
All hail, blessed Jesus! Inasmuch as You are evermore using the sweet name that acknowledges You are a brother and a near kinsman [who carries family responsibility], it is to us a dear token of Your grace, Your humility, Your love.
Oh see how Jesus trusts Himself
Unto our childish love,
As though by His free ways with us
Our earnestness to prove!
His sacred name a common word
On earth He loves to hear;
There is no majesty in Him
Which love may not come near.
