MISSION STATEMENT and SINNER’S PRAYER:

CONTENTS:

SERMON: The Christian Commitment    Philippians 4:8-9 from Spurgeon’s Metropolitan Tabernacle  (London)  with Dr. Peter Masters

Here are the matters which should occupy the minds and plans of believers. 'Whatsoever things are true' refers to the spiritual realities which should be our chief concern, unless we are becoming pliable, indifferent and ambivalent concerning the service and standards of the Lord.

PRAISE: O Be Carefull Little Eyes What You See  with the Cedarmont Kids…be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody [music] in your heart to the Lord; Ephesians 5:18-19

PRAYER 12.     Part 7 of 10

ON HOLY GROUND.

We pray today also that Thy truth may prevail against the many Antichrists that have gone forth against it. Our Father, restore a pure language to Thy Zion once again.

Take away, we pray Thee, the itching for new doctrine, the longing for that which is thought to be scientific and wise above what is written, and may Thy Church come to her moorings [secure foundation], may she cast anchor in the truth of God and there abide [remain] ; and if it be Thy will may we live to see brighter and better times.  If it might be so we would pray for the coming of our Lord very speedily to end these sluggish [unenergetic] years, these long delaying days.  But, if He come not [if He doesn’t come], yet put power into Thy truth and quicken [enliven] Thy Church that she may become energetic for the spread of it, [Thy Truth] that so Thy kingdom may come.

[In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ] Amen.

ANECDOTE 228  Salvation Only Through The Lord Jesus Christ.

The sinner in his natural estate reminds me of a man who has a strong and well-nigh impenetrable castle into which he has fled [run].  There is the outer moat; there is a second moat; there are the high walls; and then afterward there is the dungeon and keep, into which the sinner will retire.

Now, the first moat that goes round the sinner’s trusting place is his good works. “Ah !”  he says,” I am as good as my neighbor; twenty shillings in the pound down, ready money, I have always paid [my debts]  ; I am no sinner ; I tithe mint and cumin [give 10% to the Church from my increase of everything, even spices]; a good respectable gentleman I am indeed.”

Well, when God comes to work with him, to save him, he sends his army across the first moat; and as they go through it, they cry [shout] , “Salvation is of the Lord ;” and the moat is dried up, for if it be of the Lord, how can it be of good works ?

But when that is done, he has a second intrenchment ceremonies.  “Well,” he says, “I will not trust in my good works, but I have been baptized, I have been confirmed; do not I take the sacrament [communion, the Lord’s Supper] ? That shall be my trust.”

Over the moat ! Over the moat!

And the soldiers go over again, shouting, “Salvation is of the Lord.” The second moat is dried up; it is all over with that.

Now they come to the next strong wall; the sinner, looking over it, says, “I can repent, I can believe, whenever I like; I will save myself by repenting and believing.”

Up come the soldiers of God, his great army of conviction, and they batter this wall to the ground, crying,

“Salvation is of the Lord”.   Your faith and your repentance must all be given you, or else you will neither believe nor repent of sin.”

And now the castle is taken; the man’s hopes are all cut off; he feels that it is not of self; the castle of self is overcome, and the great banner upon which is written “Salvation is of the Lord ”is displayed upon the battlements.

But is the battle over?  O no; the sinner has retired to the keep [the strongest and securest part of a medieval castle], in the center of the castle; and now he changes his tactics.

“I cannot save myself,” says he, “therefore I will despair; there is no salvation for me.” Now this second castle is as hard to take as the first, for the sinner sits down and says, “I can’t be saved, I must perish.”

But God commands the soldiers to take this castle, too, shouting, “Salvation is of the Lord”; “though it is not of man, it is of God;”  he is able to save, even to the utter most,” though you can not save yourself.

This sword, you see, cuts two ways; it cuts pride down, and then it cleaves [splits-open] the skull of despair.

If any man say he can save himself, it halveth [halves] his pride at once; and if another man say he cannot be saved, it dasheth [throws] his despair to the earth, for it affirms that he can be saved, seeing,

“Salvation is of the Lord.” That is the effect this doctrine has upon the sinner:

may it have that effect on you!

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK  March 16  TO OTHERS AN –ENSAMPLE- [PATTERN]   C.H. Spurgeon
-Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you-   Philippians 4:9

Lo que aprendisteis y recibisteis y oisteis y visteis en mi, esto haced; y el Dios de paz será con vosotros— Filipenses 4:9

It is well when a man can with advantage be so minutely [precicely] copied as Paul might have been. Oh, for grace to imitate him this day and every day!

Should we, through divine grace, carry into practice the Pauline teaching [Given by apostolic authority through Paul],  we may claim the promise which is now open before us; and what a promise it is! God, who loves peace, makes peace, and breathes peace, will be with us. -Peace be with you- is a sweet benediction; but for the God of peace to be with us is far more. Thus, we have the fountain as well as the streams, the sun as well as his beams.

If the God of peace be with us, we shall enjoy the peace of God which passeth [passes] all understanding, even though outward circumstances should threaten to disturb.

If men quarrel, we shall be sure to be peacemakers, if the Maker of peace be with us.  It is in the way of truth that real peace is found. If we quit the faith or leave the path of righteousness under the notion of promoting peace, we shall be greatly mistaken.

First pure, then peaceable, is the order of wisdom and of fact. Let us keep to Paul’s line, [teaching]  and we shall have the God of peace with us as He was with the apostle.

Prayer: Please help us, Lord to do Those things, which we have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in Paul so that the God of peace, You Lord, will be with us as Paul says, in the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.

MORNING     March 16

"I am a stranger [Pilgrim] with thee [Lord].” —Psalm 39:12
¾Porque peregrino soy para contigo, — Salmos 39:12

YES, O Lord with You, but not to You. All my natural alienation [stand-offish-ness] from You, Your grace has effectually removed; and now, in fellowship with you, I walk through this sinful world as a pilgrim in a foreign country.

You are a stranger in Your own world. Man forgets You, dishonors You, sets up new laws and alien customs, and does not know You. When Your dear Son came to His own [people], His own received Him not [didn’t accept Him]. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not [didn’t know Him]. Never was [a] foreigner so speckled a bird among the denizens [indigenous] of any land as Your beloved Son among His mother's brethren [His relatives].

It is no marvel, then, if I who live the life of Jesus, should be unknown and a stranger here below. Lord, I would not be a citizen where Jesus was an alien. His pierced hand has loosened the cords which once bound my soul to earth, and now I find myself a stranger in the land.

My speech seems an outlandish tongue to these Babylonians [Babblers] among whom I dwell. My manners are singular [with oneness of purpose], and my actions are strange [odd to the world]. A Tartar [high-born] would be more at home in Cheapside than I could ever be in the haunts [digs, lodgings] of sinners.

But here is the sweetness of my lot: I am a stranger with You. You are my fellow sufferer, my fellow pilgrim. Oh, what joy to wander in such blessed society! My heart burns within me by the way when You speak to me, and though I am a sojourner, I am far more blest than those who sit on thrones, and far more at home than those who dwell in their ceiled houses.

To me remains nor place, nor time:
My country is in every clime;
I can be calm and free from care
On any shore, since God is there.

While place we seek, or place we shun,
The soul finds happiness in none:
But with a God to guide our way,
Tis [it’s] equal joy to go or stay.

 EVENING    March 16

"Keep back Thy servant also from presumptuous sins." —Psalm 19:13
¾Detén asimismo á tu siervo de las soberbias; Que no se enseñoreen de mí. —Salmos 19:13

SUCH was the prayer of the "man after God's own heart."  Did holy David need to pray thus? How needful, then, must such a prayer be for us babes in grace! It is as if he said, "Keep me back, or I shall rush headlong over the precipice of sin."

Our evil nature, like an ill-tempered horse, is apt to run away. May the grace of God put the bridle upon it and hold it in, that it rush not into mischief [wrong doing]. What might not the best of us do if it were not for the checks [divine limits] which the Lord sets on us in both providence and in grace! The psalmist's prayer is directed against the worst form of sin—that which is done with deliberation and willfulness. Even the holiest need to be "kept back" from the vilest transgressions. It is a solemn thing to find the apostle Paul warning saints against the most loathsome sins. "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence [lust], and covetousness, which is idolatry."

What! Do saints want [lack] warning against such sins as these? Yes, they do. The whitest robes, unless their purity be preserved by divine grace, will be defiled by the blackest spots.

Experienced Christian, boast not in your experience; you will trip yet, if you look away from Him who is able to keep you from falling. You whose love is fervent, whose faith is constant, whose hopes are bright, say not, "We shall never sin," but rather cry,

"Lead us not into temptation."

There is enough tinder [flammable material] in the heart of the best of men to light a fire that shall burn to the lowest hell, unless God shall quench the sparks as they fall.

Who would have dreamed that righteous Lot could be found drunken, and committing uncleanness?

Hazael said,

"Is Thy servant a dog, that he should do this thing?"

and we are very apt to use the same self-righteous question.

May infinite wisdom cure us of the madness [insanity] of self-reliance. ________________________________________

A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER: [One and all]

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been  self-centered from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, because of my sin  and You say,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me,  I trust You, to  be my Lord and Savior from now on.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins.  I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.  Even the sins of the whole world.

Thank you,  Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting  in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. Romans  8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Holy Ghost, Comforter, Spirit of Truth]

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father. With all my heart, thank you Father for saving me in Jesus’ name,  Amen.

Allow us to share the joy of your new birth with heaven. Won’t you? Heaven rejoices over each redeemed sinner. Luke 15:7

MISSION STATEMENT:

Our aim is to be Christlike. We desire to fulfill the Great Commission in taking the GOOD NEWS of Salvation by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ [The Messiah] to every creature, making and baptizing disciples in the name of God the Father, Jesus the Christ and the Holy Ghost.

The Published Titles from Spurgeon that are included exclusively each day in the Devotion are:

·       C.H. Spurgeon Prayers

·       Spurgeon’s  Illustrative Anecdotes

·       Faith’s Checkbook

·       Morning & Evening

These titles are selected from the inspired body of work created from the preaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892. He created an excellent  legacy of gospel preaching and exposition and is known as the “Prince of Preachers”.  Spurgeon has been and is today widely read with great benefit from the 1800’s to this present time. He is the beloved founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (Still thriving TODAY through the faithful preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.)  [Click to live-stream current gospel preaching in real time each Sunday from London by Dr. Peter Masters, Metropolitan Tabernacle pastor since 1970.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please bless Your disciples toward the winning of many souls, and help us to be loving and compassionate toward all who are in need, especially those in the household of faith. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His sake, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not praise or exalt  Charles H. Spurgeon beyond the honor due him. He didn’t need or want it when he was on earth and would have no need or desire for it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM and Him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers alone will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word. (The King James version (KJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text) avoid doctrinal and editorial weaknesses found in many contemporary editions.

Prayer Selection by Spurgeon must not be offered as a substitute for personal, intimate fervent, heart-felt, prayer. It  is intended rather, to warm the hearts of those who are in prayer seeking a season of authentic two-way, heart-to-heart  fellowship and prayer with the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. Read from the NT Book of Romans Chapter 8.

VIDEO To explain the explosion [over 100] of English Translations of the Holy BIBLE      (Video)

Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort  (Text only)

URL:
https://www.febc.edu.sg/v15/article/def_the_inside_story_of_westcott_and_hort

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

* Letters from close relatives are quoted in the Inside Story above

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is evil in itself, but because the attitude of being contented to use a blemished version rather than an existing unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has taken the trouble to preserve for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to change over to a version that is based on a defective text.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson to all:

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said. And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled” (Lev 10:1–6).

PRAYER 14, Part 1 of 8

BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL! by The Gaither Congregation (Praise the Lord, together with us, won’t you?)

LORD, we are longing to draw near; may Thy Spirit draw us near. We come by the way of Christ our Mediator. We could not approach Thee, O our God, if it were not for Him, but in Him we come boldly to the throne of heavenly grace.

Nor can we come without thanksgiving — thanksgiving from the heart, such as the tongue can never express. Thou hast [have] chosen us from before the foundation of the world, and this well-head [fountain] of mercy sends forth streams of loving-kindness never ceasing. Because we were chosen we have been redeemed with precious blood.

Bless the Lord!

And we have been called by the Holy Spirit out of the world, and we have been led to obey that wondrous call which hath quickened [given new birth to] us and renewed us, and made us the people of God, given us adoption into the Divine Family.

Bless the Lord!.

[I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.]

ANECDOTE 243: The Trouble Within.

The wise man saith, [says] “As a bird that wandereth [wanders] from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.” It is not the box that makes the jewel, nor the place that makes the man. “Oh, but anywhere rather than this !” Yes, and when you get into the place you now covet [desire] , you will pine to be back again.

A barren tree is none the better for being transplanted. A blind man may stand at many windows before he will improve his view. If it is difficult to produce good works where you are, you will find it still difficult where you wish to be. He who said that he leaped so many yards at *Rhodes, [Ancient Olympic Games] was asked to do the same feat at home; surely the place could not take away his strength, nor give it to him. Oh, sirs, the real difficulty lies not without you, but within you.

*In ancient times there was a Roman saying: "Hic Rhodus, hic salta!"—

"Rhodes is here, [so] now perform your jump",

an admonition to prove one's idle boasts by deed rather than talk. It comes from an Aesop's fable called "The Boastful Athlete", and was cited by Hegel and Marx. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 31 PRESENCE OF MIND C.H. Spurgeon 1834—1892

-Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken [captive].

-Proverbs 3:25,26 -No tendras temor de pavor repentino, Ni de la ruina de los impios cuando viniere: Porque Jehova será tu confianza, Y el preservará tu pie de ser preso - Proverbios 3:25,26

When God is abroad [active] in judgments, He would not have His people alarmed. He has not come forth to harm, but to defend the righteous. He would have them manifest [show] courage. We who enjoy the presence of God ought to display presence of mind. Since the Lord Himself may suddenly come, we ought not to be surprised at anything sudden.

Serenity under the rush and roar of unexpected evils is a precious gift of divine love. The Lord would have His chosen display discrimination, [discernment] so that they may see that the desolation of the wicked is not a real calamity to the universe. Sin alone is evil; the punishment which follows thereupon is as a preserving salt to keep society from putrefying.

We should be far more shocked at the sin which deserves hell, than at the hell which comes out of sin. So, too, should the Lord’s people exhibit great quietness of spirit.

Satan and his serpent seed are full of all subtlety; but those who walk with God shall not be taken in their deceitful snares.

Go on, believer in Jesus, and let the Lord be thy confidence.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, that I don’t have to be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes, For You, Lord shall be my confidence, and shall keep my foot from being captured. Your Peace which is beyond comprehension shall keep my heart and mind through the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, I do trust you to save and keep me. I believe you died in my place on the cross for my sins and that You were raised from the dead, victorious over death, sin, and the grave to give eternal life and Your righteousness to all that would believe in You. Thank You, Lord Jesus, Amen.

MORNING March 31

“With His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

―Por su llaga fuimos nosotros curados. ―Isaías 53:5

PILATE delivered our Lord to the lictors [executioners] to be scourged . The Roman scourge [whip] was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were intertwisted every here and there among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of bone inflicted fearful laceration [cuts], and tore off the flesh from the bone. The Savior was, no doubt, bound to the column, and thus beaten. He had been beaten before; but this of the Roman lictors was probably the most severe of His flagellations [scourgings].

My soul, stand here and weep over his poor stricken body.

Believer in Jesus, can you gaze upon Him without tears, as He stands before you the mirror of agonizing love? He is at once fair as the lily for innocence, and red as the rose with the crimson of His own blood. As we feel the sure and blessed healing which His stripes have wrought in us, does not our heart melt at once with love and grief? If ever we have loved our Lord Jesus, surely we must feel that affection glowing now within our bosoms.

See how the patient Jesus stands,

Insulted in His lowest case!

Sinners have bound the Almighty’s hands,

And spit in their Creator’s face.

With thorns His temples gored and gashed

Send streams of blood from every part;

His back’s with knotted scourges lashed.

But sharper scourges tear His heart.”

We would fain [earnestly want to] go to our chambers [room] and weep; but, since our business calls us away, we will first pray our Beloved to print the image of His bleeding self upon the tablets of our hearts all the day, and at nightfall we will return to commune with Him, and sorrow that our sins should have cost Him so dear. ________________________________________

EVENING March 31

“And Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah, took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.” ―2 Samuel 21:10

―2 Samuel 21:10

IF the love of a woman to her slain sons could make her prolong her mournful vigil for so long a period, shall we weary of considering the sufferings of our blessed Lord? She drove away the birds of prey, and shall not we chase from our meditations those worldly and sinful thoughts which defile both our minds and the sacred themes upon which we are occupied?

Away, ye birds of evil wing! Leave ye the sacrifice alone! She bore the heats of summer, the night dews and the rains, unsheltered and alone. Sleep was chased from her weeping eyes: her heart was too full for slumber. Behold how she loved her children!

Shall Rizpah thus endure, and shall we start [freeze-up] at the first little inconvenience or trial?

Are we such cowards that we cannot bear to suffer with our Lord? She chased away even the wild beasts, with courage unusual in her sex, and will not we be ready to encounter every foe for Jesus’ sake? These her children were slain by other hands than hers, and yet she wept and watched: what ought we to do who have by our sins crucified our Lord?

Our obligations are boundless, our love should be fervent [intensely passionate] and our repentance thorough [all-inclusive].

To watch [stand] with Jesus should be our business, to protect His honor, our occupation, to abide by His cross our solace.

Those ghastly corpses might well have affrighted [frightened] Rizpah, especially by night; but in our Lord, at whose cross-foot [foot of the cross] we are sitting, there is nothing revolting, but everything attractive.

Never was living beauty so enchanting as a dying Savior.

Jesus, we will watch with Thee yet a while, and do [should] Thou graciously unveil Thyself to us; then shall we not sit beneath [be dressed in] sackcloth, but

[we shall sit] in a royal pavilion .

THE PILGRIM’S PROGRESS by John Bunyan

ORIGINAL: The Pilgrim’s Progress Part I  Published by Logos in 1853 from Bunyan's 1678 text.

REVISED VERSION PRINT: by Barry E. Horner: The Pilgrim’s Progrefs [sic] ©1999

The Pilgrim Progress is the world’s most widely published and most famous  Allegory .  It was commonly found among he scant possessions in the cabins of the early American Pioneers. It was loved and read, second only to the Holy Bible, God’s Word, of guidance, encouragement and comfort. It’s also considered, by some, to be the world’s first English novel and is the most published book of all time. other than the Bible. There were 1,300 editions printed before 1938, 250 years after the author's death. It remains one of the world’s most famous books.  In allegorical genre, it is unequalled.

Pilgrim’s Progress is referenced in many Spurgeon Sermons.

Here's one example:

Christ in you, the hope of glory.”—Colossians 1:27

Note: Spurgeon was taught to read at a very early age and read The Pilgrim’s Progress for the first time when he was six years old. He would return to re-read it over 100 times.  He made many reference to it in his sermons as Pastor of  The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

Excerpt from heading II. § 5 THE SWEETNESS OF THIS MYSTERY, WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture in The Pilgrim’s Progress. of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams [ancient weapons of war] had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melodies], for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle] he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

Spurgeon’s Full Sermon:  Christ in You, May 13, 1883 Scripture: Colossians 1:27 From: Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Volume 29 (cit. II. The Mystery of this is Christ In You, § 5)

You may choose to read, listen or share Pilgrim’s Progress is a bed time story.

It will bless, strengthen, encourage and instruct pilgrims (readers and seekers) of all ages for a life-time.

Index of the 533 Scripture References cited in The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan  1687

John Bunyan did not write or set forth any world view of any kind. His masterful allegory, demonstrably displays that God's Word does not support a world view at all but sets forth God’s view on every thing revealed and forever settled in heaven, The Holy Bible.

________________________________________

Bunyan merely, yet very ardently trusted in God’s Word; the God-breathed [divinely inspired], Self-authenticating, Providentially-protected immutable, inerrant, infallible, and inextinguishable written Word from GOD Himself. God, the omnipotent, omnipresent, righteous and Holy One, has breathed out His Word and has made His Word flesh in the birth of Jesus Christ. God’s Word is now, has always been and will forever be in perfect accord with Himself and the Spirit of Truth.

God’s infinite Love and Grace to redeem all fallen, hell-bound sinners who will look to Him is revealed by the sacrifice of His only begotten [fathered by God] Son, Jesus Christ.

The story inspiration given to Bunyan was in the form of a dream. Never the less, it imparts wisdom and may encourage soul-searching self-reflection to all pilgrims who seek redemption and eternal life. Many scripture references will  be captured and remembered from its reading [listening].

Jesus, we will watch with Thee yet a while, and do [should] Thou graciously unveil Thyself to us; then shall we not sit beneath [be dressed in] sackcloth, but

[we shall sit] in a royal pavilion .

… and pray for souls to be saved and believers to be strengthened.

The Lord … is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

Pray also that believers will be taught by the Holy Spirit and will rightly divide God’s Holy Word preserved by God, Himself.

vis. Textus Receptus [The Received Greek Text] (From the overwhelming majority of extant New Testament Greek manuscripts)

The Incomplete and unsealed codices of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not majority texts, [Original Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus]. Sinaiticus and Vaticanus present variant, ambiguous and erroneous readings rather than that of the well-established and settled texts. They disagree often with one another as well as with the settled majority texts. Thus, an attempt to create a pretext that will continue to justify a never-ending demand for additional editions and interpretations. These unsettled differences and bias in certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have led to the production of multiple “modern” editions with ambiguities, many variant readings and confusion from the explosion of unending, new editions.

Profit-driven publishers have embraced such an economic windfall to sell a continual flow of “new and better” English edition of The Bible. They give too little attention to the fidelity and accuracy already settled [in heaven] in majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the  Greek Textus Receptus.

Psalm 119:89-90

ל Lamed

89 Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations:

thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. [abides]

God, Himself, providentially protects and preserves His Word. His Word is the God-breathed, self-authenticating, immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word, settled in heaven. He is not the author of confusion.

1 Corinthians 14:33

MISSION STATEMENT:

… Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13

Our solemn aim is to trust and obey the Lord Jesus in everything. We must rely upon God entirely to achieve His purposes in us and through us.

Loving and worshiping God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength in Spirit and in truth is a labor of love and duty of every believer. Desire will grow stronger as we give ourselves to prayer, reading and meditating on God’s Word, gathering ourselves together to hear Gospel preaching, the singing of Psalms, sacred hymns and spiritual songs.

We purpose, with God’s help, to reach the lost, comfort, strengthen and encourage believers, and rightly divide God’s Word to proclaim the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ to every creature.

The Holy Bible is God’s eternal, inerrant, infallible, immutable revealed and divinely preserved Word. It is His completed scripture of all revealed truth. He brings guidance and the knowledge of His will to us personally and to each local body of Christian believers through His Word. With God’s help and empowerment, we will read, study, meditate-on, trust-in and obey God’s Holy Bible and encourage others to do the same. We hold it to be the supreme authority and the preeminent and divinely established precedent [Stare Decisis Latin: to stand by that which is decided, the legal doctrine of precedence, literally "to stand by decided matters"] in all things.

Therefore, the purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to publish the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every creature. And, to serve all, in love, especially those in the household of faith. We are compelled by this purpose to follow, and rightly apply and proclaim, God’s Holy Word, the Bible, as God’s divinely preserved truth; being the essential authority and goal of this ministry.

The Metropolitan Tabernacle: Home church of Charles H. Spurgeon

The preaching, teaching, soul winning and writings of Charles Haddon Spurgeon are firmly fixed on the bedrock of Holy Scripture. His entire ministry was established, empowered and inspired solely by God’s Holy Word imparted to him by the Holy Spirit. His written works continue to bless, guide, challenge and benefit today’s readers through the publication of his authentic Gospel sermons and other inspired writing His ministry continues to thrive and flourish today through the Metropolitan Tabernacle a church begun in 1650 The present building was constructed in 1861 and was rebuilt after the destruction caused during the second world war. This church has been steadfast in it’s adherence to Reformed Baptist theology that Spurgeon said was just a nickname for Biblical Christianity. They have resisted and continue to reject worldly winds of false doctrine, including pragmatism and self-centered “Christian hedonism”. Biblical Christianity will always show itself as a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, never just a philosophy or religion.

Mission Aim: Spurgeon's sermons and devotional messages have edified the church body and have been a great benefit, to all readers for many years. We pray they will be useful to strengthen personal discipleship in each and every believer and will be a useful instrument in the spreading of the Gospel [Good news] of Jesus Christ, the Messiah to all nations.

MISSION PURPOSE:

Our aim is to trust and obey the Lord Jesus Christ in everything. We rely wholly upon the Holy Spirit to impart God’s divine revelation to us from His Word, the Holy Bible. With God’s help, we will follow Jesus. We expect that lost souls will be saved, believers, comforted, strengthened and encouraged. To God be all the glory.

The Bible is God’s divinely inspired [God breathed] revealed, infinite, eternal, inerrant, infallible, immutable Word to all mankind. This divine, supernatural Word brings all revealed truth to the world. We purpose, therefore, to follow God’s Holy Word, Personal guidance and guidance to the local church comes by His Word.

Hence, we resolve, God helping us, to read, study, meditate-on, trust-in and obey God’s revealed and divinely preserved Word, holding it to be the supreme authority and the only divinely established Stare Decisis [Latin: to stand by that which is decided] in all things.

Therefore, the purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to publish and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every creature, ministering God’s love to all, especially those in the household of faith. The Bible is God’s everlasting, inspired, (God breathed) inerrant, infallible, unchangeable, divinely protected and preserved Word of love and salvation to the entire world. It is also the essential foundation of this ministry.

History: The inspired preaching, teaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon is all empowered by God’s revealed Word the Bible. His written publications continue to benefit readers through authentic Gospel preaching and sound biblical teaching. This ministry continues to flourish through The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London

Presented here are Spurgeon's writings for the edification of the church as well as for the benefit, blessing and gospel challenge to all readers. Our desire is that the written Word of God will become the Living Word in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ to each and every reader.

To this end, this website is offered to encourage and provide opportunity to hear Gospel preaching, and to engage in daily devotional meditation, Bible study and prayer. Careful adherence to Spurgeon’s calendar and original, unabridged text is given herein.

Prayer: Dear Lord, empower your ministry to win many souls, and serve those in need, especially those in the household of faith, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not solicit praise of Charles H. Spurgeon or his writing or preaching. He didn’t need or want it then and wouldn’t desire it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach Christ Jesus only and him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus or for gathering in in-person worship. Neither will they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word imparted by the Holy Spirit.

The Authorized King James Version (AKJV), also known as the Authorized Version (AV), is the authentic English Bible because it is rendered [translated into English] accurately and faithfully from the established majority of the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] manuscripts of the New Testament and the Hebrew Masoretic Text of the Old Testament (The Jewish Tanakh)  These manuscripts are providentially protected of God, and always give a greater glory to God when compared to variant readings. The established majority manuscripts avoid doctrinal error, inaccuracies in translation, uninspired editorial notations, variant or ambiguous readings taken from Codices Vaticanus, or Sinaiticus.

The Authorized King James version is distinguished also by the requirement of Great Brittan that all King James bibles be printed only by the Cambridge University Press, the Crown’s authorized printer. No other [person or publisher] may print, copy or import the King James Bible into Great Brittan by order of the Crown.

Printed Prayer: Printed prayers must not be read or offered as a substitute for personal, fervent, effectual, heart-felt, prayer. They are offered, rather, to warm the hearts of those who will presently seek a season of fervent, authentic two-way, heart-to-heart fellowship and prayer with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Authentic revelations from God during prayer are always consistent with His revealed Word, the Bible.

Preaching Preparation: When preparing to preach, please send us the text reference that has been chosen if you would like us to send the Spurgeon Sermon addressing the same text.

My Prayer is that You would touch, lift up, encourage and teach all who faithfully minister your Word. Bless all who minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May Your blessing and holy anointing fall fresh upon each dear reader and abide with each one who rightly divides and faithfully proclaims Your Word [The Bible]. Please save many souls; and may all be glory be yours alone. I pray this in the name of our Redeemer, The Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

A SINNER’S PRAYER: … FOR WHOSOEVER:

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am lost. I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity in Hell. My nature and behavior has been sinful from birth. Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m sorry for each and every sin I have ever done and look to You to forgive them all.

I look to You, alone Lord Jesus to save me.

I call on You, Lord Jesus, right now to save me. You died on the cross for me, as God’s sacrifice for my sin.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me, I trust You to be my Savior and Lord.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins. I want to follow You from now on.

You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.

Thank you, Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was born and that You love me still

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is alive and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave.

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father and Holy Spirit for Your comfort and guidance in all things.

With all my heart, thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. In your name, I pray, Amen.

Philippians Chapter 4

1Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. (sing-along)

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth [strengthens] me.

14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.

15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God.

19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

21 Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.

22 All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Cæsar’s household.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
