A SINNER'S PRAYER

PRAYER 15, Part 4 of 9

THE PEACE OF GOD.

O, Spirit of God dwell in us. Is not this also a covenant promise? “I will put My Spirit within thee, and I will make thee to walk in My ways.” Dwell with us Holy Spirit; rule over us Holy Spirit; transform us to Thy own likeness, O Holy Spirit! Then shall we be clean; then shall we keep the law. We would offer a prayer to Thee for those who are quite strange to the work of the Spirit of God, who have never owned their God, who have lived as if there were no God.

Open their eyes that they may see God even though that sight should make them tremble and wish to die.

O! let none of us live without our God and Father.

[We ask this In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.]

ANECDOTE:  250: The Rewards of Heaven.

Here comes [George] Whitfield, the man who stood before twenty thousand at a time to preach the gospel, who in England, Scotland, Ireland, and America has testified the truth of God, and who could count his converts by thousands, even under one sermon! Here he comes, the man that endured persecution and scorn, and yet was not moved, the man of whom the world was not worthy, who lived for his fellow men, and died at last for their cause; stand by angels and admire, while the Master takes him by the hand and says,

“Well done, well done, good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord!”

See how free grace honors the man whom it enabled to do valiantly.

Hark! Who is this that comes there? a poor thin-looking creature, that on earth was a consumptive; there was a hectic flush now and then upon her cheek, and she lay three long years upon her bed of sickness. Was she a prince’s daughter, for it seems heaven is making much stir about her? No, she was a poor girl that earned her living by her needle, and she worked herself to death! Stitch, stitch, stitch, from morning to night! and here she comes. She went prematurely to her grave, but she is coming, like a shock [stack] of corn fully ripe, into heaven; and her Master says,

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful in a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

She takes her place by the side of Whitfield. Ask what she ever did, and you find out that she used to live in some back garret [attic] down some dark alley in London ; and there used to be another poor girl come to work with her, and that poor girl, when she first came to work with her, was a gay and volatile [unstable] creature, and this consumptive child told her about Christ; and they used to, when she was well enough, creep out of an evening to go to chapel or to church together. It was hard at first to get the other one to go, but she used to press her lovingly; and when the girl went a little wild, she never gave her up. She used to say,

“0, Jane, I wish you loved the Savior;”

and when Jane was not there she used to pray for her, and when she was there she prayed with her: and now and then when she was stitching away, read a page out of the Bible to her, for poor Jane could not read. And with many tears she tried to tell her about the Savior who loved her and gave himself for her. At last, after many a day of hard persuasion, and many an hour of sad disappointment, and many a night of sleepless tearful prayer, at last she lived to see the girl [Jane] profess her love to Christ; and she left her and took sick, and there she lay till she was taken to the hospital, where she died. When she was in the hospital, she used to have a few tracts, and she used to give them to those who came to see her; she would try, if she could, to get the women to come around, and she would give them a tract. When she first went into the hospital, if she could creep out of bed, she used to get by the side of one who was dying, and the nurse used to let her do it; till at last she got too ill, and then she used to ask a poor woman on the other side of the ward, who was getting better, and was going out, if she would come and read a chapter to her; not that she wanted her to read to her on her own account, but for her sake, for she thought it might strike her heart while she was reading it. At last this poor girl died and fell asleep in Jesus; and the poor consumptive needle-woman had said to her [by the Lord] ,

“Well done”

- and what more could an archangel have said to her? -

“she hath done what she could.”

FAITH'S CHECKBOOK:  April 12 CLOSE FELLOWSHIP C.H. Spurgeon 1834—1892

-And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith [says] the Lord- Jeremiah 31:34

-Y no enseñarán mas ninguno a su projimo, ni ninguno a su hermano, diciendo: Conoce a Jehova: porque todos me conocerán, desde el mas pequeno de ellos hasta el mas grande, dice Jehova- Jeremias 31:34

Truly, whatever else we do not know, we know the Lord. This day [Today] is this promise true in our experience, and it is not a little one. The least believer among us knows God in Christ Jesus. Not as fully as we desire; but yet truly and really we know the Lord. We not only know doctrines [teachings] about Him, but we know HIM. He is our Father and our Friend. We are acquainted with Him personally. We can say,

-My Lord, and my God.-

We are on terms of close fellowship with God, and many a happy season do we spend in His holy company. We are no more strangers to our God, but the secret of the Lord is with us. This is more than nature could have taught us.

Flesh and blood has not revealed God to us. Christ Jesus has made known the Father to our hearts.

If, then, the Lord has made us know Himself, is not this the fountain of all saving knowledge?

To know God is eternal life.

So soon as we come to acquaintance with God we have the evidence of being quickened into newness of life. O my soul, rejoice in this knowledge, and bless thy God all this day! [All day long.]

Prayer: Thank you Lord that we shall no more teach our neighbor, and everyone his brother to Know the Lord: because they shall all know the Lord, from the least of them unto the greatest of them. God bless you as you faithfully tell others the good news of Jesus Christ, today. Remember, we celebrate Easter [Passover] every time a soul is saved. The lost in sin are [as we were] resurrected from the dead because Jesus Christ is the RESURRECTION. We celebrate new life in HIM every day and for every redeemed, born-again child of God.  Praise the Lord!

MORNING April 12

"I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint." —Psalm 22:14

—Heme escurrido como aguas, Y todos mis huesos se descoyuntaron —Salmos 22:14

Did earth or heaven ever behold a sadder spectacle of woe [sadness] !

In soul and body, our Lord felt Himself to be weak as water poured upon the ground. The placing of the cross in its socket had shaken Him with great violence, had strained all the ligaments, pained every nerve, and more or less dislocated all His bones. Burdened with His own weight, the august [robust] [Jesus Christ] felt the strain increasing every moment of those six long hours. His sense of faintness and general weakness were overpowering; while to His own consciousness He became nothing but a mass of misery and swooning sickness [fainting]. When Daniel saw the great vision, he thus describes his sensations,

"There remained no strength in me, for my *vigor was turned into corruption, and I retained no strength:"

how much more faint must have been our greater Prophet [the Lord Jesus] when He saw the dread vision of the wrath of God, and felt it in His own soul!

To us, sensations such as our Lord endured would have been insupportable, and kind unconsciousness would have come to our rescue; but in His case, He was wounded, and felt the sword; He drained the cup and tasted every drop.

"O King of Grief! (a title strange, yet true to Thee of all kings only due)

O King of Wounds! how shall I grieve for Thee, Who in all grief preventest  [prevents] me!" As we kneel before our now ascended *Savior’s throne, let us remember well the way by which He prepared it as a throne of grace for us; let us in spirit drink of His cup, that we may be strengthened for our hour of heaviness whenever it may come.

In His natural body every member [part] suffered, and so must it be in the spiritual; but as out of all His griefs and woes His body came forth uninjured to glory and power, even so shall His mystical body [His bride, the Church] come through the furnace with not so much as the smell of fire [smoke] upon it.

EVENING April 12

"Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins. " —Psalm 25:18

-Mira mi aflicción y mi trabajo [dolor]: Y perdona todos mis pecados. —Salmos 25:18

IT is well for us when prayers about our sorrows are linked with pleas [prayers] concerning our sins—when, being under God's hand, we are not wholly taken up with our pain, but remember our offenses against God. It is well, also, to take both sorrow and sin to the same place. It was to God that David carried his sorrow: it was to God that David confessed his sin.

Observe, then, we must take our sorrows to God.

Even your little sorrows you may roll upon God, for He counts the hairs of your head; and your great sorrows you may commit [give] to Him, for He holds the ocean in the hollow of His hand.

Go to Him, whatever your present trouble may be, and you shall find Him able and willing to relieve you. But we must take our sins to God too. We must carry them to the cross, that the blood may fall upon them, to purge [take] away 0ther guilt, and to destroy their defiling power. The special lesson of the text is this: we are to go to the Lord with sorrows and with sins in the right spirit.

Note that all David asks concerning his sorrow is

"Look upon mine affliction and my pain,"

but the next petition, vastly more express, definite, decided, plain is

"Forgive all my sins."

Many sufferers would have put it,

"Remove my affliction and my pain, and look at my sins."

But David does not say so. He cries,

"Lord, as for my affliction and my pain, I will not dictate to Your wisdom. Lord, look at them, I will leave them to You, I should be glad to have my pain removed, but do as You will;

but as for my sins, Lord, I know what I want with them; I must have them forgiven; I cannot endure to lie under their curse for a moment."

A Christian counts sorrow lighter in the scale than sin; he can bear that his troubles should continue, but he

cannot support the burden of his transgressions [sins].

A SINNER’S PRAYER:   … FOR WHOSOEVER: [One and all]

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved     … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am hopeless.  I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross for my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity condemned to Hell. I have been  self-centered from birth.  Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m guilty and sorry for each and every sin I have done and look to You to forgive me of them all.
I look to You, alone  Lord Jesus to save me.
I call on You,  Lord Jesus, right now to save me.  You died on the cross for me, because of my sin  and You say,  “It shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me,  I trust You, to  be my Lord and Savior from now on.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins.  I ask You to abide in me and give me the desire to always follow You.
You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.  Even the sins of the whole world.

Thank you,  Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me even before I was born and that You still love me now. I love You too.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You have called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting  in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is ALIVE and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave. Romans  8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Holy Ghost, Comforter, Spirit of Truth]

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father. With all my heart, thank you Father for saving me in Jesus’ name,  Amen.

Allow us to share the joy of your new birth with heaven. Won’t you? Heaven rejoices over each redeemed sinner. Luke 15:7

He created an excellent  legacy of gospel preaching and exposition and is known as the “Prince of Preachers”.  Spurgeon has been and is today widely read with great benefit from the 1800’s to this present time. He is the beloved founder of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (Still thriving TODAY through the faithful preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.)  [Click to live-stream current gospel preaching in real time each Sunday from London by Dr. Peter Masters, Metropolitan Tabernacle pastor since 1970.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please bless Your disciples toward the winning of many souls, and help us to be loving and compassionate toward all who are in need, especially those in the household of faith. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His sake, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not praise or exalt  Charles H. Spurgeon beyond the honor due him. He didn’t need or want it when he was on earth and would have no need or desire for it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach HIM and Him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers alone will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Neither do they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word. (The King James version (KJV), known also as the Authorized Version (AV), is the preferred English Bible because its accuracy and fidelity to the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] and the Hebrew Masoretic Text) avoid doctrinal and editorial weaknesses found in many contemporary editions.

Prayer Selection by Spurgeon must not be offered as a substitute for personal, intimate fervent, heart-felt, prayer. It  is intended rather, to warm the hearts of those who are in prayer seeking a season of authentic two-way, heart-to-heart  fellowship and prayer with the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. Read from the NT Book of Romans Chapter 8.

In 1870, The Anglican Church of England passed a resolution to revise the English Bible. The New Testament revision committee which finally consisted of 25 scholars (though only about 16 eventually attended the meetings) which included Westcott and Hort. The committee worked for ten years in the Jerusalem chamber, and these two scholars swept the Revision Committee along with them after work commenced. In fact, the “Cambridge trio” (Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot) colluded with others to dominate the meetings with their views of the text and to defeat any who opposed them. Their *letters reveal this conspiracy:

* Letters from close relatives are quoted in the Inside Story above

The only voice defending the Textus Receptus was Dr Scrivener, probably the foremost scholar of the day in the manuscripts of the Greek New Testament and the history of the Text. But he was systematically outvoted by the Cambridge trio and outdone by Hort’s powerful debating skill. When the revision was completed, the revision committee had altered the Greek Text in 5,337 places,

thus violating the original rule that had been set for the committee of not altering the Greek Text unless absolutely necessary to do so.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, let it be said that no matter how good any modern version of the New Testament is in other ways, it is clearly blemished if the work of Westcott and Hort is present in it. The presence of their work means that it is based on a defective text. Those who want to honor the Word of God must not promote the use of any of these versions by the church, not because the content of the version is evil in itself, but because the attitude of being contented to use a blemished version rather than an existing unblemished one, dishonors God. If God has taken the trouble to preserve for His people a good Greek text of the New Testament for 18 centuries, how dishonoring it would be to Him if His people now chose instead to change over to a version that is based on a defective text.

Let the biblical story of Nadab and Abihu be a lesson to all:

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said. And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled” (Lev 10:1–6).

As Jon remembered veterans, we remember him: Jon Edward Riley (1971-2021) who would, on occasion, just bust-out singing the following songs; sometimes, on the way to church sometimes just singing along with the Elvis Gospel CD that was always kept in the truck’s CD player or,

even better, a song the Lord would spontaneously put in his joyful and loving heart.

I LOVE You Lord by Jared Reynolds

How Great Thou Art with Elvis

Lead Me & Rock-a My Soul by Elvis and friends

…Jon always said “Later”; as in [see’ya later] instead of “good bye”. It was his unique way to bid farewell … He would never say “good-bye”. Now,  remembering the sound of his voice saying “Later”, it rings true with a  new and deeper meaning and it brings a joyfulness and comfort to the hearts of those he loved so well; those who love him still, and always will.

… we are reminded of the promise of the Hymn:

’Till We Meet Again. Amen.

TODAY’S SERMONS:

The Marriage Bond   1 Corinthians 7:1       By Dr. Peter Masters

The abiding bond of marriage is established with its ‘debt’ of love, care and pleasure, and its concept of headship blended with partnership. Also explained is Paul’s divinely inspired marriage teaching (often contested), the circumstances of divorce, and how the Lord is proved in marriage.

Finding True Freedom   Luke 13:11   with Peter Masters

Healing the bent-over woman in the synagogue, the Lord declares her 'loosed' rather than healed, showing the miracle to be a picture of our release (at conversion) from all the moral and spiritual limitations that bind us away from God. Here is true conversion.

Long before the Conservative Resurgence, Dr. R.G. Lee was the Southern Baptist champion of biblical infallibility and inerrancy. In his sermon, “The Word of God – Not Broken and Not Bound,” published in 1930, in which Dr. Lee stated the following regarding the HOLY BIBLE: (KJV)

“All [Prophets and Apostles] who wrote are immortalized by their writing of this great Book, supernatural in origin, divine in authorship, human in penmanship, infallible in authority, infinite in scope, universal in interest, personal in application, regenerative in power, inspired [God breathed] in totality.”

Dr. R.G. Lee preached a sermon called Payday Someday over 1,200 times.

Why was it so powerful? Why was it requested and preached so many times?

Come and see, Won’t you?

SACRED LITERATURE:

THE PILGRIM’S PROGRESS   by  John Bunyan  is the most famous Allegory, world-wide and the Most widely Published Book of all time and was printed in over 200 Languages. It has NEVER,  since 1698, been  out-of-print.

Only The King James Bible was more widely published than The Pilgrim’s Progress.

ONLINE PRINT LIBRARY: (No Enrollment Fee or Registration required)

BUNYAN’S  ORIGINAL of 1678: The Pilgrim’s Progress  Published in 1853  by Logos

REVISED VERSION:              The Pilgrim’s Progrefs  [sic] 1999 by Barry E. Horner

OLD ENGLISH  PRINT: The Pilgrim’s Progress  Part II   AKA  Christiana
(Christian’s wife, Christiana and children; their dangerous journey, and safe arrival at the desired country.)

Pilgrim Progress is the world’s most famous Allegory, It and the Bible were commonly the only books to be found in the cabin of early American Settlers and were  loved and  read more than any book, second only to the Holy Bible.  It’s  also considered, by some, as being the world’s first English novel. It’s likely the most published book other than the Bible of all time. There were 1,300 editions printed before 1938,  250 years after the Bunyan’s death. Hence, the world’s most famous Allegory.

Comment on Pilgrim’s Progress by Charles H. Spurgeon from the Spurgeon Sermon
“Christ in You”.

Spurgeon:  Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me of Mr. Bunyan’s picture of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [happy melodies] , for the king himself was come. Up to the castle of the heart [main castle]  he rode in triumph, and took his royal throne to be henceforth the sole lord and king of the city.

Christ in you is a right royal word. Christ swaying his scepter from the center of your being over every power and faculty, desire and resolve, bringing every thought into captivity to himself, Oh, this is glory begun, and the sure pledge of heaven. Oh, for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus, The Messiah;  our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

Spurgeon Sermon: Christ in You, Preached May 13, 1883 Scripture: Colossians 1:27  From: Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Volume 29   (cit. II. THE SWEETNESS OF THIS MYSTERY, WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU, § 5)

You may choose to read, listen or share Pilgrim’s Progress with your little ones as a bed time story.   It will bless, strengthen, encourage and instruct pilgrims of all ages and will create precious and enduring memories in little ears.

Spurgeon read it for the first time as a precocious five year old reader and would returned to read it over 100 times during the course of his remarkable ministry as a Baptist pastor who is  known as The Prince of Preachers .

A SINNER'S PRAYER

PRAYER 15, Part 3 of 9   THE PEACE OF GOD.

O God, we pray again fulfill that covenant promise,

“I will take away the heart of stone out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.”

May we be very tender towards Thee; may we feel Thy faintest admonition; may even the gentlest breath of Thy Spirit suffice to move us; may we not be

“as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding; whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest [for fear that] they come near unto us,”

but may we be as children obedient to a father; may we yield our members cheerfully to the instruments of righteousness; may we have a natural desire wrought in the new nature towards everything that is pure and honest, unselfish and Christly [Christ-like].

[We ask this In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.]

(Attachment: PRAYER 15.doc)

ANECDOTE 249: Memory of Earth’s Mercies, a Joy in Heaven.

I think Dr. [Isaac] Watts [Click for biography] is right when he says that we shall

“with transporting joys recount the labors of our feet.”

It is rather a small subject, and probably we shall far more delight to dwell on the labors of our Redeemer’s hands and feet; but still we shall remember all the way whereby the Lord our God led us, and we shall talk to one another concerning it. In heaven we shall remember our happy Sabbaths here below, when our hearts burned within us while Jesus himself drew near.

Since Jesus speaks after he has risen of the things that he said while he was with his disciples, we perceive that the river of death is not like the fabled Lethe, [name of the Greek spirit of forgetfulness and oblivion] which caused all who drank thereof to forget their past.

We shall arise with a multitude of hallowed [holy] memories enriching our minds. Death will not be oblivion to us, for it was not so to Jesus. Rather shall we meditate on mercies experienced, and by discoursing thereon [talking about them]

we shall make known to principalities and powers the manifold wisdom of God.

-And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee [for yourself] a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, when he looketh [looks] upon it, shall live

- Numbers 21:8

-Y Jehova dijo a Moises: Hazte una serpiente ardiente, y ponla sobre la bandera: y sera que cualquiera que fuere mordido y miraré a ella, vivirá - Numeros 21:8

This is a glorious gospel type [illustration]. Jesus, [who was] numbered with the transgressors [associated with sinners], hangs before us on the cross.

A look to Him will heal us of the serpent-bite [death-sentence] of sin; will heal us at once

-When he [we] looketh [look] upon it, he [we] shall live.-

Let the reader who is mourning [feeling condemnation from] his sinfulness, note [focus on] these words

-Everyone that looketh [looks] upon it shall live.-

Every looker will find this true. I have found it so.

I looked to Jesus and lived at once.I know I did.

Reader, if you look to Jesus you will live too. True, you are swelling with the venom [serpent’s poison], and you see no hope.

True, also there is no hope but this one. But this is no doubtful cure

-Everyone that is bitten, when he looketh [looks] upon it, shall live.-

The brazen [bronze] serpent was not lifted up as a curiosity to be gazed upon by the healthy; but its special purpose was for

those who were  -bitten.-

Jesus died as a real Savior for real sinners. Whether the bite has made you a drunkard, or a thief, or an unchaste or a profane person, a look at the Great Savior will heal you of these diseases, and make you live in holiness and communion with God.

Look and live.

Prayer: Thank You Father that You instructed Moses, “To make a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole:

and it shall come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, [with the deadly bite] when he [looks] upon [the bronze serpent] he shall live.”

Lord Jesus, I look to You to save me. I believe you are God’s only begotten son, One with the Father and that You took my place on the cross and actually became sin so that Your   sacrifice satisfied eternal salvation to ALL that would believe, when you said, Tetelestai!  And Attested to the fact that my sin debt was forever

paid-in-full.

Not only did You pay my sin debt but You took upon yourself all sin of all time and actually became sin to satisfy God’s perfect judgement to redeem all sinners who would trust in Jesus Christ (The Messiah).

“It is Finished!”

Lord Jesus, You were lifted up and died on the Cross and raised from the dead so I could look to You and live. I believe that God raised You victoriously over sin , Satan and the grave, so that I could be made the righteousness of God in You. Thank You.

I celebrate You, the risen Lord during Passover (Easter) and every time a new birth takes place by  trusting in You, THE RESURRECTION.

In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray,  Amen.

MORNING April 10

"The place which is called Calvary." —Luke 23:33

—Vinieron al lugar que se llama de la Calavera—Lucas 23:33

THE hill of comfort is the hill of Calvary; the house of consolation is built with the wood of the cross; the temple of heavenly blessing is founded upon the riven [split-apart] rock—riven by the spear which pierced His side. No scene in sacred history ever gladdens the soul [makes a happy  heart] like Calvary's tragedy [the crucifixion of Jesus].

Is it not strange,

The darkest hour That ever dawned on sinful earth,

Should touch the heart with softer power,

For comfort, than an angel's mirth? [laughter]

That to the Cross the mourner's eye should turn,

Sooner than where the stars of Bethlehem burn?

Light springs [goes dark] from the midday-afternoon light [high-noon] of Golgotha, and every herb [plant] of the field blooms sweetly beneath the shadow of the once accursed tree.

In that place of thirst, grace has dug a fountain that ever gushes with waters pure as crystal, each drop capable of alleviating the woes of mankind. You who have had your seasons of conflict will confess that it was not at Olivet [The Mount of Olives] that you found comfort, not on the hill of Sinai, nor on [Mt.] Tabor;

but Gethsemane, Gabbatha, and Golgotha have been a means of comfort to you.

The bitter herbs of Gethsemane have often taken away the bitterness in your life, the scourge of Gabbatha has often scourged away your cares, and the groans of Calvary have put all other groans to flight.

Thus Calvary yields us comfort rare and rich. We never would have known Christ's love in all its heights and depths if He had not died; nor could we guess the Father's deep affection if He had not given His Son to die.

The common mercies we enjoy all sing of love, just as the sea-shell, when we put it to our ears, whispers of the deep sea whence it came; but if we desire to hear the ocean itself, we must not look at everyday blessings, but at the transactions of the crucifixion.

He who would know love, let him retire to Calvary and see the Man of sorrows die.

EVENING   April 11

“For there stood by me this night the angel of God. " —Acts 27:23

Porque esta noche ha estado conmigo el ángel del Dios —Hechos 27:23

TEMPEST and long darkness coupled with imminent risk of shipwreck had brought the crew of the vessel into a sad case; one man alone among them remained perfectly calm, and by his word the rest were reassured. Paul was the only man who had heart enough to say,

"Sirs, be of good cheer."

There were veteran Roman legionaries [soldiers] on board and brave old mariners [sailors], and yet their poor Jewish prisoner had more spirit than they all.

He [Paul] had a secret Friend who kept his courage up. The Lord Jesus dispatched [sent] a heavenly messenger to whisper words of consolation in the ear of His faithful servant, so he wore a shining countenance [a facial expression of divine joy] and spake [spoke] like a man at ease.

If we fear the Lord, we may look for timely interventions when our case is at its worst. Angels are not kept from us by storms, or hindered [restricted] by darkness.

Seraphs [angels] think it no humiliation to visit the poorest of the heavenly family. If angel's visits are few and far between at ordinary times, they will be frequent in our nights of tempest and tossing [dangerous storms].

Friends may drop [abandon] us when we are under pressure, but our intercourse with the inhabitants of the angelic world will be more abundant; and in the strength of loving words, brought to us from the throne by the way of Jacob's ladder, we will be

strong to do exploits.

Dear reader, is this an hour of distress for you? Then ask for help. Jesus is the angel of the covenant, and if His presence is now earnestly sought, it will not be denied.

What that presence brings in heart-felt cheer [to] those who, like Paul, have had the angel of God standing by them in a night of storm when anchors would no longer hold and rocks were nigh [near], remember well.

0 angel of my God, be near,

Amid the darkness hush [quiet] my fear:

Loud roars the wild tempestuous [stormy] sea,

Thy presence, Lord, shall comfort me

PRAYER 14, Part 1 of 8

BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL! by The Gaither Congregation (Praise the Lord, together with us, won’t you?)

LORD, we are longing to draw near; may Thy Spirit draw us near. We come by the way of Christ our Mediator. We could not approach Thee, O our God, if it were not for Him, but in Him we come boldly to the throne of heavenly grace.

Nor can we come without thanksgiving — thanksgiving from the heart, such as the tongue can never express. Thou hast [have] chosen us from before the foundation of the world, and this well-head [fountain] of mercy sends forth streams of loving-kindness never ceasing. Because we were chosen we have been redeemed with precious blood.

Bless the Lord!

And we have been called by the Holy Spirit out of the world, and we have been led to obey that wondrous call which hath quickened [given new birth to] us and renewed us, and made us the people of God, given us adoption into the Divine Family.

Bless the Lord!.

[I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.]

ANECDOTE 243: The Trouble Within.

The wise man saith, [says] “As a bird that wandereth [wanders] from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.” It is not the box that makes the jewel, nor the place that makes the man. “Oh, but anywhere rather than this !” Yes, and when you get into the place you now covet [desire] , you will pine to be back again.

A barren tree is none the better for being transplanted. A blind man may stand at many windows before he will improve his view. If it is difficult to produce good works where you are, you will find it still difficult where you wish to be. He who said that he leaped so many yards at *Rhodes, [Ancient Olympic Games] was asked to do the same feat at home; surely the place could not take away his strength, nor give it to him. Oh, sirs, the real difficulty lies not without you, but within you.

*In ancient times there was a Roman saying: "Hic Rhodus, hic salta!"—

"Rhodes is here, [so] now perform your jump",

an admonition to prove one's idle boasts by deed rather than talk. It comes from an Aesop's fable called "The Boastful Athlete", and was cited by Hegel and Marx. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes

FAITH’S CHECKBOOK MARCH 31 PRESENCE OF MIND C.H. Spurgeon 1834—1892

-Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken [captive].

-Proverbs 3:25,26 -No tendras temor de pavor repentino, Ni de la ruina de los impios cuando viniere: Porque Jehova será tu confianza, Y el preservará tu pie de ser preso - Proverbios 3:25,26

When God is abroad [active] in judgments, He would not have His people alarmed. He has not come forth to harm, but to defend the righteous. He would have them manifest [show] courage. We who enjoy the presence of God ought to display presence of mind. Since the Lord Himself may suddenly come, we ought not to be surprised at anything sudden.

Serenity under the rush and roar of unexpected evils is a precious gift of divine love. The Lord would have His chosen display discrimination, [discernment] so that they may see that the desolation of the wicked is not a real calamity to the universe. Sin alone is evil; the punishment which follows thereupon is as a preserving salt to keep society from putrefying.

We should be far more shocked at the sin which deserves hell, than at the hell which comes out of sin. So, too, should the Lord’s people exhibit great quietness of spirit.

Satan and his serpent seed are full of all subtlety; but those who walk with God shall not be taken in their deceitful snares.

Go on, believer in Jesus, and let the Lord be thy confidence.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, that I don’t have to be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes, For You, Lord shall be my confidence, and shall keep my foot from being captured. Your Peace which is beyond comprehension shall keep my heart and mind through the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, I do trust you to save and keep me. I believe you died in my place on the cross for my sins and that You were raised from the dead, victorious over death, sin, and the grave to give eternal life and Your righteousness to all that would believe in You. Thank You, Lord Jesus, Amen.

MORNING March 31

“With His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

―Por su llaga fuimos nosotros curados. ―Isaías 53:5

PILATE delivered our Lord to the lictors [executioners] to be scourged . The Roman scourge [whip] was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were intertwisted every here and there among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of bone inflicted fearful laceration [cuts], and tore off the flesh from the bone. The Savior was, no doubt, bound to the column, and thus beaten. He had been beaten before; but this of the Roman lictors was probably the most severe of His flagellations [scourgings].

My soul, stand here and weep over his poor stricken body.

Believer in Jesus, can you gaze upon Him without tears, as He stands before you the mirror of agonizing love? He is at once fair as the lily for innocence, and red as the rose with the crimson of His own blood. As we feel the sure and blessed healing which His stripes have wrought in us, does not our heart melt at once with love and grief? If ever we have loved our Lord Jesus, surely we must feel that affection glowing now within our bosoms.

See how the patient Jesus stands,

Insulted in His lowest case!

Sinners have bound the Almighty’s hands,

And spit in their Creator’s face.

With thorns His temples gored and gashed

Send streams of blood from every part;

His back’s with knotted scourges lashed.

But sharper scourges tear His heart.”

We would fain [earnestly want to] go to our chambers [room] and weep; but, since our business calls us away, we will first pray our Beloved to print the image of His bleeding self upon the tablets of our hearts all the day, and at nightfall we will return to commune with Him, and sorrow that our sins should have cost Him so dear. ________________________________________

EVENING March 31

“And Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah, took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.” ―2 Samuel 21:10

―2 Samuel 21:10

IF the love of a woman to her slain sons could make her prolong her mournful vigil for so long a period, shall we weary of considering the sufferings of our blessed Lord? She drove away the birds of prey, and shall not we chase from our meditations those worldly and sinful thoughts which defile both our minds and the sacred themes upon which we are occupied?

Away, ye birds of evil wing! Leave ye the sacrifice alone! She bore the heats of summer, the night dews and the rains, unsheltered and alone. Sleep was chased from her weeping eyes: her heart was too full for slumber. Behold how she loved her children!

Shall Rizpah thus endure, and shall we start [freeze-up] at the first little inconvenience or trial?

Are we such cowards that we cannot bear to suffer with our Lord? She chased away even the wild beasts, with courage unusual in her sex, and will not we be ready to encounter every foe for Jesus’ sake? These her children were slain by other hands than hers, and yet she wept and watched: what ought we to do who have by our sins crucified our Lord?

Our obligations are boundless, our love should be fervent [intensely passionate] and our repentance thorough [all-inclusive].

To watch [stand] with Jesus should be our business, to protect His honor, our occupation, to abide by His cross our solace.

Those ghastly corpses might well have affrighted [frightened] Rizpah, especially by night; but in our Lord, at whose cross-foot [foot of the cross] we are sitting, there is nothing revolting, but everything attractive.

Never was living beauty so enchanting as a dying Savior.

Jesus, we will watch with Thee yet a while, and do [should] Thou graciously unveil Thyself to us; then shall we not sit beneath [be dressed in] sackcloth, but

[we shall sit] in a royal pavilion .

THE PILGRIM’S PROGRESS by John Bunyan

ORIGINAL: The Pilgrim’s Progress Part I  Published by Logos in 1853 from Bunyan's 1678 text.

REVISED VERSION PRINT: by Barry E. Horner: The Pilgrim’s Progrefs [sic] ©1999

The Pilgrim Progress is the world’s most widely published and most famous  Allegory .  It was commonly found among he scant possessions in the cabins of the early American Pioneers. It was loved and read, second only to the Holy Bible, God’s Word, of guidance, encouragement and comfort. It’s also considered, by some, to be the world’s first English novel and is the most published book of all time. other than the Bible. There were 1,300 editions printed before 1938, 250 years after the author's death. It remains one of the world’s most famous books.  In allegorical genre, it is unequalled.

Pilgrim’s Progress is referenced in many Spurgeon Sermons.

Here's one example:

Christ in you, the hope of glory.”—Colossians 1:27

Note: Spurgeon was taught to read at a very early age and read The Pilgrim’s Progress for the first time when he was six years old. He would return to re-read it over 100 times.  He made many reference to it in his sermons as Pastor of  The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.

Excerpt from heading II. § 5 THE SWEETNESS OF THIS MYSTERY, WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU

"Christ in us is Christ reigning." reminds me [Spurgeon] of Mr. Bunyan’s picture in The Pilgrim’s Progress. of [the town of] Mansoul, …when the Prince Immanuel laid siege to it, and Diabolus from within the city strove to keep him out. It was a, hard time for Mansoul then; but when at last the battering rams [ancient weapons of war] had broken down the gates, and the silver trumpets sounded, and the prince’s captains entered the breach, then on a day the prince himself did ride down the city’s streets, while liberated citizens welcomed him with all their hearts, hung out all their streamers, and made the church towers rock again as the bells rang out merry peals [melodies], for the king himself was come.

Oh for more of the imperial sovereignty of Jesus; it is our liberty to be absolutely under his sway.

Spurgeon’s Full Sermon:  Christ in You, May 13, 1883 Scripture: Colossians 1:27 From: Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Volume 29 (cit. II. The Mystery of this is Christ In You, § 5)

You may choose to read, listen or share Pilgrim’s Progress is a bed time story.

It will bless, strengthen, encourage and instruct pilgrims (readers and seekers) of all ages for a life-time.

Index of the 533 Scripture References cited in The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan  1687

John Bunyan did not write or set forth any world view of any kind. His masterful allegory, demonstrably displays that God's Word does not support a world view at all but sets forth God’s view on every thing revealed and forever settled in heaven, The Holy Bible.

________________________________________

Bunyan merely, yet very ardently trusted in God’s Word; the God-breathed [divinely inspired], Self-authenticating, Providentially-protected immutable, inerrant, infallible, and inextinguishable written Word from GOD Himself. God, the omnipotent, omnipresent, righteous and Holy One, has breathed out His Word and has made His Word flesh in the birth of Jesus Christ. God’s Word is now, has always been and will forever be in perfect accord with Himself and the Spirit of Truth.

God’s infinite Love and Grace to redeem all fallen, hell-bound sinners who will look to Him is revealed by the sacrifice of His only begotten [fathered by God] Son, Jesus Christ.

The story inspiration given to Bunyan was in the form of a dream. Never the less, it imparts wisdom and may encourage soul-searching self-reflection to all pilgrims who seek redemption and eternal life. Many scripture references will  be captured and remembered from its reading [listening].

… and pray for souls to be saved and believers to be strengthened.

The Lord … is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

Pray also that believers will be taught by the Holy Spirit and will rightly divide God’s Holy Word preserved by God, Himself.

vis. Textus Receptus [The Received Greek Text] (From the overwhelming majority of extant New Testament Greek manuscripts)

The Incomplete and unsealed codices of Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are not majority texts, [Original Masoretic Hebrew and the Greek Textus Receptus]. Sinaiticus and Vaticanus present variant, ambiguous and erroneous readings rather than that of the well-established and settled texts. They disagree often with one another as well as with the settled majority texts. Thus, an attempt to create a pretext that will continue to justify a never-ending demand for additional editions and interpretations. These unsettled differences and bias in certain sectarian doctrine [dogma] have led to the production of multiple “modern” editions with ambiguities, many variant readings and confusion from the explosion of unending, new editions.

Profit-driven publishers have embraced such an economic windfall to sell a continual flow of “new and better” English edition of The Bible. They give too little attention to the fidelity and accuracy already settled [in heaven] in majority manuscripts of the Masoretic Hebrew and the  Greek Textus Receptus.

Psalm 119:89-90

ל Lamed

89 Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations:

thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. [abides]

God, Himself, providentially protects and preserves His Word. His Word is the God-breathed, self-authenticating, immutable [unchanging and unchangeable], eternal, inerrant, infallible, infinite and all-powerful Word, settled in heaven. He is not the author of confusion.

1 Corinthians 14:33

MISSION STATEMENT:

… Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13

Our solemn aim is to trust and obey the Lord Jesus in everything. We must rely upon God entirely to achieve His purposes in us and through us.

Loving and worshiping God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength in Spirit and in truth is a labor of love and duty of every believer. Desire will grow stronger as we give ourselves to prayer, reading and meditating on God’s Word, gathering ourselves together to hear Gospel preaching, the singing of Psalms, sacred hymns and spiritual songs.

We purpose, with God’s help, to reach the lost, comfort, strengthen and encourage believers, and rightly divide God’s Word to proclaim the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ to every creature.

The Holy Bible is God’s eternal, inerrant, infallible, immutable revealed and divinely preserved Word. It is His completed scripture of all revealed truth. He brings guidance and the knowledge of His will to us personally and to each local body of Christian believers through His Word. With God’s help and empowerment, we will read, study, meditate-on, trust-in and obey God’s Holy Bible and encourage others to do the same. We hold it to be the supreme authority and the preeminent and divinely established precedent [Stare Decisis Latin: to stand by that which is decided, the legal doctrine of precedence, literally "to stand by decided matters"] in all things.

Therefore, the purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to publish the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every creature. And, to serve all, in love, especially those in the household of faith. We are compelled by this purpose to follow, and rightly apply and proclaim, God’s Holy Word, the Bible, as God’s divinely preserved truth; being the essential authority and goal of this ministry.

The Metropolitan Tabernacle: Home church of Charles H. Spurgeon

The preaching, teaching, soul winning and writings of Charles Haddon Spurgeon are firmly fixed on the bedrock of Holy Scripture. His entire ministry was established, empowered and inspired solely by God’s Holy Word imparted to him by the Holy Spirit. His written works continue to bless, guide, challenge and benefit today’s readers through the publication of his authentic Gospel sermons and other inspired writing His ministry continues to thrive and flourish today through the Metropolitan Tabernacle a church begun in 1650 The present building was constructed in 1861 and was rebuilt after the destruction caused during the second world war. This church has been steadfast in it’s adherence to Reformed Baptist theology that Spurgeon said was just a nickname for Biblical Christianity. They have resisted and continue to reject worldly winds of false doctrine, including pragmatism and self-centered “Christian hedonism”. Biblical Christianity will always show itself as a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, never just a philosophy or religion.

Mission Aim: Spurgeon's sermons and devotional messages have edified the church body and have been a great benefit, to all readers for many years. We pray they will be useful to strengthen personal discipleship in each and every believer and will be a useful instrument in the spreading of the Gospel [Good news] of Jesus Christ, the Messiah to all nations.

MISSION PURPOSE:

Our aim is to trust and obey the Lord Jesus Christ in everything. We rely wholly upon the Holy Spirit to impart God’s divine revelation to us from His Word, the Holy Bible. With God’s help, we will follow Jesus. We expect that lost souls will be saved, believers, comforted, strengthened and encouraged. To God be all the glory.

The Bible is God’s divinely inspired [God breathed] revealed, infinite, eternal, inerrant, infallible, immutable Word to all mankind. This divine, supernatural Word brings all revealed truth to the world. We purpose, therefore, to follow God’s Holy Word, Personal guidance and guidance to the local church comes by His Word.

Hence, we resolve, God helping us, to read, study, meditate-on, trust-in and obey God’s revealed and divinely preserved Word, holding it to be the supreme authority and the only divinely established Stare Decisis [Latin: to stand by that which is decided] in all things.

Therefore, the purpose of The John Mark Publishing Company is to publish and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every creature, ministering God’s love to all, especially those in the household of faith. The Bible is God’s everlasting, inspired, (God breathed) inerrant, infallible, unchangeable, divinely protected and preserved Word of love and salvation to the entire world. It is also the essential foundation of this ministry.

History: The inspired preaching, teaching and writing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon is all empowered by God’s revealed Word the Bible. His written publications continue to benefit readers through authentic Gospel preaching and sound biblical teaching. This ministry continues to flourish through The Metropolitan Tabernacle in London

Presented here are Spurgeon's writings for the edification of the church as well as for the benefit, blessing and gospel challenge to all readers. Our desire is that the written Word of God will become the Living Word in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ to each and every reader.

To this end, this website is offered to encourage and provide opportunity to hear Gospel preaching, and to engage in daily devotional meditation, Bible study and prayer. Careful adherence to Spurgeon’s calendar and original, unabridged text is given herein.

Prayer: Dear Lord, empower your ministry to win many souls, and serve those in need, especially those in the household of faith, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Disclaimer: The John Mark Publishing Company does not solicit praise of Charles H. Spurgeon or his writing or preaching. He didn’t need or want it then and wouldn’t desire it now. Our aim is to lift up and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to preach Christ Jesus only and him crucified.

Precaution: These Messages and prayers will not substitute for continual fellowship with the Lord Jesus or for gathering in in-person worship. Neither will they replace personal reading, meditation, prayer and fasting over God's divinely preserved and eternal Word imparted by the Holy Spirit.

The Authorized King James Version (AKJV), also known as the Authorized Version (AV), is the authentic English Bible because it is rendered [translated into English] accurately and faithfully from the established majority of the Greek Textus Receptus [received text] manuscripts of the New Testament and the Hebrew Masoretic Text of the Old Testament (The Jewish Tanakh)  These manuscripts are providentially protected of God, and always give a greater glory to God when compared to variant readings. The established majority manuscripts avoid doctrinal error, inaccuracies in translation, uninspired editorial notations, variant or ambiguous readings taken from Codices Vaticanus, or Sinaiticus.

The Authorized King James version is distinguished also by the requirement of Great Brittan that all King James bibles be printed only by the Cambridge University Press, the Crown’s authorized printer. No other [person or publisher] may print, copy or import the King James Bible into Great Brittan by order of the Crown.

Printed Prayer: Printed prayers must not be read or offered as a substitute for personal, fervent, effectual, heart-felt, prayer. They are offered, rather, to warm the hearts of those who will presently seek a season of fervent, authentic two-way, heart-to-heart fellowship and prayer with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Authentic revelations from God during prayer are always consistent with His revealed Word, the Bible.

Preaching Preparation: When preparing to preach, please send us the text reference that has been chosen if you would like us to send the Spurgeon Sermon addressing the same text.

My Prayer is that You would touch, lift up, encourage and teach all who faithfully minister your Word. Bless all who minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May Your blessing and holy anointing fall fresh upon each dear reader and abide with each one who rightly divides and faithfully proclaims Your Word [The Bible]. Please save many souls; and may all be glory be yours alone. I pray this in the name of our Redeemer, The Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

A SINNER’S PRAYER: … FOR WHOSOEVER:

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Call on the name of the Lord Jesus and be saved … pray like this, won’t you?

“Lord Jesus, I’m a lost sinner and without You I am lost. I can’t save myself. Without your death on the cross to pay my sin debt I would be condemned to spend eternity in Hell. My nature and behavior has been sinful from birth. Please forgive me.

I realize that doing my best, being as good as possible, or being better than other people can never save me. . I’m sorry for each and every sin I have ever done and look to You to forgive them all.

I look to You, alone Lord Jesus to save me.

I call on You, Lord Jesus, right now to save me. You died on the cross for me, as God’s sacrifice for my sin.

Right now, just as I am, I call on You, Lord Jesus to save me, I trust You to be my Savior and Lord.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have forgiven me of all my sins. I want to follow You from now on.

You paid the price for all of my sins by dying on the cross.

Thank you, Lord Jesus that You loved me and died for me before I was born and that You love me still

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You called me away from sin and death into the Life everlasting in Your only begotten son, the Lord Jesus.

Thank You, Heavenly Father that you raised Jesus from the dead. He is alive and in Him we are victorious over sin, death and the grave.

Thank You for saving me heavenly Father and Holy Spirit for Your comfort and guidance in all things.

With all my heart, thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. In your name, I pray, Amen.

Philippians Chapter 4

1Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. (sing-along)

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth [strengthens] me.

14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.

15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God.

19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

21 Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.

22 All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Cæsar’s household.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
